The first unit of the course looks at the Native American cultures that existed before the early European colonization efforts and the impact the European colonists had on those civilizations. These early interactions will lead to the massive elimination of the Native Americans and their civilizations as well as providing the foundation for the establishment of the 13 Colonies, the transatlantic exchange of goods, and the adoption of slavery in the "New World" for the cultivation of tobacco, cotton, and sugar.
